FRIGHT NIGHT FIRST LOOKS: “DON’T MOVE” Delivers Big Scares With Its First Trailer

Making people laugh and making people scream may seem like completely different skill sets, but history has proven otherwise. Both rely on perfect timing, catching an audience off guard, and knowing exactly how to get a reaction. That's why it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that some of horror's biggest success stories have come from comedians. Jordan Peele shocked the film world when he traded sketch comedy for modern horror classics "Get Out," "Us," and "Nope," becoming one of the genre's most celebrated filmmakers. Bobcat Goldthwait stepped behind the camera to deliver the unsettling found-footage thriller "Willow Creek," while Danny McBride helped resurrect the "Halloween" franchise as a writer and producer. Each proved that if you can control an audience's emotions, it doesn't really matter whether they're laughing... or gripping the armrest hoping for a distraction to soften the fear.
Over the past several years, James "Murr" Murray has been writing his own chapter in that story. Best known as one of the stars of "Impractical Jokers," Murray has steadily earned respect among horror fans with a string of successful novels co-written with Darren Wearmouth, including "Awakened," "The Brink," "The Stowaway," "Area 51," and "Don't Move." His books blend relentless suspense, memorable monsters, and cinematic storytelling, proving there's much more to Murray than hidden cameras and practical jokes.
That journey has now reached its biggest milestone yet. "Don't Move," the bestselling novel that introduced readers to one of Murray's most suspenseful stories, is making the leap from page to the big screen. The official trailer has finally arrived, giving horror fans their first look at the monstrous creature lurking within its pages.
As an avid horror fan who's watched more creature features than I can count, I walked away genuinely impressed. The trailer got me more than once with its perfectly timed jump scares, pulled me in with its stunning cinematography, and introduced a cast of characters I was already invested in after only a few minutes. Just as importantly, it knew exactly what not to show, teasing the creature just enough to build suspense without giving away all its secrets. If this first look is any indication, "Don't Move" is shaping up to be one of the year's most exciting creature features, and I can't wait to experience those scares all over again when I see it on the big screen.
Directed by Maclain Nelson, "Don't Move" is written by James "Murr" Murray, David M. Wulf, and Ethan Jack Berman. The film stars Lyndsy Fonseca, Russell "Russ" Vitale, Tom Cavanagh, Hunter King, Joseph Lee Anderson, and Rob Riggle, with special appearances by T-Pain, Brian Quinn, and Matt Biedel. The official synopsis reads:
“An annual camping trip takes a horrifying turn when a church group unknowingly wanders into an uncharted section of a remote forest, where its members begin disappearing one by one. As panic spreads, suspicion falls on Ricky (Russell "Russ" Vitale), the group's resident troublemaker, whose mysterious behavior makes him the obvious suspect. But the deeper they venture into the woods, the more terrifying the truth becomes: they're being hunted by a massive, spider-like predator with an insatiable appetite.
Caught in a deadly maze of webs that alert the creature to their every movement, escape seems impossible. Their only hope rests with Megan Forrester (Lyndsy Fonseca), the group's level-headed leader, who is still grappling with a recent personal tragedy. Forced to decide whether Ricky is an enemy or their best chance at survival, Megan must lead the remaining survivors through a nightmare where even the smallest movement could mean a gruesome death. Their only chance to make it out alive is to do the one thing every instinct tells them not to... Don't Move.”
As someone who's always had a soft spot for creature features, I loved this trailer. I enjoy seeing practical tension, memorable monsters, and strong characters come together in a way that keeps you glued to the screen. Based on this first trailer, "Don't Move" looks like it's aiming to deliver exactly that. I have a very good feeling that horror fans will have a lot to talk about once it hits theaters. Full disclosure: I genuinely had moments when a couple of jump scares got me, so I am pretty confident I will love this movie (not to mention I already do love Murr’s work in the horror world).
Now I want to hear from my fellow horror fans. After watching the trailer, what moment hooked you the most?
